Asia Argento was born in Rome Italy in 1975. The daughter of famed Giallo film director Dario Argento & screen siren Daria Nicoledi. Asia was directed by her father Dario in one of her first works, Trauma, when she was 16. She received the David di Donatello (Italy's version of Hollywood's Academy Award) for Best Actress in 1994 for her performance in Perdiamoci di vista!, and again in 1996 for Compagna di viaggio, which also earned her a Grolla d'oro award. In 1998, Argento began appearing in English-language movies, such as B. Monkey, XXX and Abel Ferrara's New Rose Hotel. Over the years Argento has proven her ability to captivate audiences acting in a wide range of reknowned international productions from XXX, La Reine Margot, Catherine Breillat's Un veille Maitresse, Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, Tony Gaitliff's Translyvania, & Olivier Assayas Boarding Gate.
Asia wrote & directed her first film in 2000 called Scarlet Diva garnering awards & acclaim internationally for the film. In 2004 Asia directed The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things based on
the controversial book by JT Leroy.
In addition to her cinematic accomplishments, Argento has written a number of stories for magazines such as Dynamo and L'Espresso, while her first novel, titled I Love You Kirk , was published in Italy in 1999. Asia directed a controversial music video for Marilyn Manson's track Saint that was banned from airing. Most recently Asia completed a short film for the Italian Fashion house Fendi. |
